·        2 JUDGEMENTS IN THE CHURCHES

  • To the Church in Ephesus
  • 2:4 Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love. 2:5 Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.

  • To the Church in Smyrna (no criticism)

  • To the Church in Pergamum
  • 2:16 Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth (those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans).

  • To the Church in Thyatira
  • 2:20 You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. 2:21 I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. 2:22 So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways. 2:23 I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.

  • To the Church in Sardis
  • 3:1  …but you are dead.
  • 3:2 Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of my God.
  • 3:3 Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; obey it, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.

  • To the Church in Philadelphia – no discipline!

  • To the Church in Laodicea
  • 3:16 so, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 3:19 Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent

·        3 JUDGEMENT OF THE WORLD
  • To the Church in Philadelphia
·         Rev 3:10 Since you (have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come upon the whole world to test those who live on the earth.
·         At first I expected the judgments on the Earth to occupy more space; but love and judgment are usually balanced.  We should acknowledge that God loves justice; and we should praise Him for bringing punishment on unrepentant, evil people.  Chapter 19 portrays just such an attitude in Heaven.

·         Chapter 6                    17 verses
·         Chapter 7                      0 – Blessings on God’s People
·         Chapter 8:5-13         9

·         Chapter 11                    8
·         Chapter 12                    2
·         Chapter 13                  Satanic Evil
·         Chapter 14                    7
·         Chapter 15                    3
·         Chapter 16                  21
·         Chapter 17                    4
·         Chapter 18                  24
·         Chapter 19                  13
·         Chapter 20                   7
·         Chapter 21                    1

Total number of verses dealing with God’s Judgment on people: 137

OTHER POINTS FROM THE APOCALYPSE
  • The picture of the false lying church:
·         3:9 I will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan, who claim to be Jews though they are not, but are liars—I will make them come and fall down at your feet and acknowledge that I have loved you

·         The Harlot in chapter 18 relates well to the Roman Catholic Church within the European Union – the Renaissance art forms are especially clear (marble, bronze, etc), blasphemous names (See the book: “The Glories of Mary”), “in a desert” – no true fruitfulness, and persecution of the real Church (cf of Savonarola of Florence, Bloody Queen Mary in England, The Covenenters in Scotland, etc).  Of particular relevance is this statement: the calling of the real Believers to leave the RC denomination, when the time comes.
  • 18:4 “Come out of her, my people, so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues.”

  • 13:3 One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound, but the fatal wound had been healed. The whole world was astonished and followed the beast.
  • Satan will have the Antichrist who will be some kind of resurrected or genetically re-constituted being. (Cf 17:8,8)

  • God seals His people before Satan and his Antichrist can
